Reverse: Come and Take It
“Come and take it” is a legendary historic slogan, originating in 480 BC in the Battle of Thermopylae as “Molon Labe”, a response by Spartan King Leonidas I to a surrender demand by the Persian Army.
The American use of the term occurred in 1831, during the Texas Revolution against Mexico, where, a small group of Texans mounted a swivel cannon to a blockhouse in the Battle of Gonzales. Mexican forces had ordered the cannon’s seizure, whereby the defiant Texans fashioned a flag containing the phrase “Come and take it”. Thus, our rendition of an American Eagle with talons drawn clutching a swivel cannon.
